EASTERN EUROPE: Krakow,
Prague & Budapest August 25 - September 7, 2010

Love, love, love Krakow! I can still remember hearing the clop-clopping of the horses' hooves
in the main square from our hotel window at night. From early morning until midnight carriages are lined up to give rides
to visitors. This city was a great place to start--charming and small enough to walk everywhere. Our guides showed us the
town center, the former Jewish quarter and the ghetto, where we toured the newly opened Schindler's Factory museum. And the
visit wouldn't have been complete without the moving experience of Auschwitz.
Prague, our next city, felt big and a little overwhelming by comparison, but we soon learned our way around and managed to
see all the major sights, including the Charles Bridge, Astronomical clock and Prague Castle. We had an outstanding tour
of the Jewish quarter, ending with the stunning Spanish Synagogue, where we later attended a concert.
Budapest was larger still but our fabulous guide made seeing it quite manageable. Among the most striking buildings were
the Parliament and the Opera House, where a soprano sang a couple of arias for our group following the tour. Everyone's favorite
after-dark activity was the boat ride on the Danube where we could see all the fabulous buildings and monuments lit up. It
was a lovely way to help bring this unique trip to a conclusion.
